Design your additive manufacturing feedstock

A truly unique combination of facilities to successfully develop new alloys for your additive manufacturing is available at OCAS.

At OCAS, high performance small-scale melting devices are available for flexible and quick processing of tailor-made alloys in limited quantities. In combination with rapid quenching techniques, these can be used to mimic microstructures of alloys used for wire or powder additive manufacturing. It allows to make a fast screening of the alloying effect as well as the cooling rate, making it an excellent tool for exploratory research.

In addition, small batches of wire can be elaborated on lab scale to produce lab-sized samples with wire arc based additive manufacturing (WAAM) for property screening on printed components. Our reversible wire rod rolling is compatible with our 100 kg lab casts, which are cut into smaller blocks before rolling. As such, the composition of the bars can be tailored to your needs, offering new opportunities for the development of WAAM, but also for welding wire development as well as thermal spray wire. After rolling, the wire rod can be further cold drawn to your required diameter and length.

For powder additive manufacturing, tailored chemistries can be provided in the desired amount from 100 g to 100 kg for atomization to powder. Both steels and non-ferrous alloys, from generic binary or ternary alloys to complex multi-component systems, can be considered.
