OCAS (OnderzoeksCentrum voor de Aanwending van Staal) is an advanced, market-oriented research centre providing steel and metal-based products, services and solutions, to metal processing companies worldwide.
OCAS anticipates its customer’s needs by developing alloys and coatings, by producing and testing samples and co-develop steel applications. OCAS is equipped with state-of-the-art R&D tools and facilities in its laboratories in Zelzate and Zwijnaarde (Belgium). The research centre valorizes know-how by product and solution development.
OCAS has a highly qualified team of over 150 researchers and engineers with an international orientation.
Focusing on society’s needs
OCAS’s strategy and focus on society’s needs is reflected in its major activities: energy, durability and environment. In turn, these activities are underpinned and propelled forward by our technical support efforts and our entrepreneurial R&D discoveries, which help our customers reach their goals.
Our competencies, combined with our state-of-the-art equipment and collaboration with our partners, provided us with unique opportunities.
Multi-disciplinary competences for a world in transition
OCAS speeds up the R&D processes of its customers through a specialized multi-disciplinary approach combined with innovative testing methodologies. Our flexible staff is skilled in modelling, experimental testing and advanced characterisation using OCAS’s unique equipment. The alloy and metallic coating development for our customers is supported by advanced combinatorial, digital and nano-characterisation tools. E.g. our combinatorial approach is beneficial for our customers as it enables a more efficient decision making, quick elimination of uninteresting ranges and it enhances predictive power when using artificial intelligence-based methodologies.
OCAS’s proven tailor-made laboratory integrated management system includes ISO9001 certification and ISO17025 accreditation.
Finocas is a joint-venture between the Flemish Region and ArcelorMittal Belgium. OCAS and Endures are the research centres of Finocas, while Finindus is its investment company. Finocas and its daughter companies are referred to as the Finocas Group.
