OCAS (OnderzoeksCentrum voor de Aanwending van Staal) is an advanced, market-oriented research centre providing steel and metal-based products, services and solutions, to metal processing companies worldwide.

OCAS anticipates its customer’s needs by developing alloys and coatings, by producing and testing samples and co-develop steel applications.  OCAS is equipped with state-of-the-art R&D tools and facilities in its laboratories in Zelzate and Zwijnaarde (Belgium). The research centre valorizes know-how by product and solution development. 

OCAS has a highly qualified team of over 140 researchers and engineers with an international orientation.

Combining core strengths

OCAS’s structural partnerships with its partners in the Metal Processing Centre (MPC) and in the Metal Structures Centre (MSC) have proven to be real market successes.The solutions OCAS provides to its customers’ complex, multi-disciplinary material development or application problems are simply better when we combine our core strengths with those of our various partners, to offer a total solution. The further deepening of our relations with all of the partners of the Materials Research Cluster Gent (MRCluster) is the path forward for growth.

Finocas Group

Finocas is a joint-venture between the Flemish Region and ArcelorMittal Belgium. OCAS is the research centre of Finocas, while Finindus is its investment company. Facility services are delivered by I-SenS. Finocas and its daughter companies are referred to as the Finocas Group.
