Shining a light on corrosion products

Avoid confusing corrosion products with all kinds of other small surface contamination particles by rapid screening.

In daily practice, corrosion products are often confused with all kinds of other small surface contamination particles such as dust, residues from drawing or cutting emulsions, rinsing liquids of cleaning sections, etc.
Simple and fast screening techniques are welcomed for quick root-cause analyses, avoiding exhaustive and iterative trouble shooting, resulting in an efficient problem-solving strategy. In some cases, the analysis even leads to a direct mitigation.

Rapid screening

It is known that Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) allows for the determination of the presence of certain corrosion products due to their characteristic peaks. For this purpose, OCAS built its own reference database for a wide range of corrosion products. Adapted to different sampling types from a metallic panel light shade change to a small amount of powder from a suspicious area, semi-quant analysis can be obtained within minutes by using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy.

Additional data

If quantitative data or information on distribution over a surface are required, specific solutions are available at OCAS. More advanced analyses such as e.g. X-ray diffraction (XRD) or even Mössbauer spectroscopy can be carried out.
For valuable products, OCAS developed non-destructive sampling methods.
