Multiphysics analysis

Modelling involves deciding what to include in the model and what to exclude from it. Often, the modelling is confined to one domain of physics only: e.g. the mechanical loads and stresses are included, but temperature changes are neglected. Sometimes this is not possible, because some of the phenomena interact strongly. E.g. temperature differences induce thermomechanical stresses, or electrical currents generate heat, and the temperature changes influence the electrical resistance, etc. In such cases, the model must include and solve for parameters of all the relevant domains of physics.

At OCAS we have considerable experience in performing such multiphysics analyses, with applications such as e.g.:

  • inductive heating
  • magnetic pulse forming
  • welding simulation
  • fluid-structure interaction
  • etc.
