IChemE global process safety 2016 highly commended award

The nomination  entitled “Safe and Economic Operation of carbon capture and storage (=CCS)” outlining the achievements of two FP7 projects, CO2PipeHaz and CO2QUEST received the 2016 IChemE global process safety highly commended award (joint 2nd).

The Application & Solutions department of OCAS (=OnderzoeksCentrum voor de Aanwending van Staal) was involved in the European CO2QUEST FP7 project for advanced materials characterisation e.g. dynamic tear testing and to predict in-use behaviour via finite element modelling.

This award recognises the importance of developing the underpinning science and technologies required to understand and demonstrate the safety and environmental impact of CCS as a viable and cost-effective technology for mitigating the impact of climate change. OCAS intends to continue as partner in future collaborative projects on CCS.

According to IChemE, this award “recognises an organisation that has an exemplary record in implementing process safety best practice and improvements to reduce major hazards and risks. Entries may include a structured programme – such as HAZOP, PHR, PSM – or technology to minimise risk in operating practices and human factors.
